Whether you have relied on improv or rehearsed your first read in the more traditional way, once you have presented your scene to the class and gotten the feedback from it, you will be ready to begin the next step of your rehearsal process—blocking and staging your scene.
Summary
Armed with the shared vision of the scene that you and your partner have negotiated through analysis, collaboration, and compromise, you are ready to begin rehearsing your scene. You will rehearse moment by moment, beat by beat, focusing and playing your objectives and tactics specifically and positively. You will be listening and adjusting to your partner’s choices at every moment. Only when you are satisfied with a moment should you continue into the next one. Good work is built one brick at a time, brick on brick. You already know the story of the scene as well as its dramatic progression. Even as you work in each moment, you will be trying to fulfill the dramatic arc you have discovered through your analysis and, if necessary, improv. When you have satisfied the preceding checklist, you are ready to present the scene to your class.
